UNIVERSITY COMMITTEE

Welcome to the website of the Committee for the establishment of the Paweł Brzostowski University of Applied Sciences. We are a working group within the Austrian association Duckological Society. Participation in this working group is also expressly open to non-members. We have set ourselves the goal of founding an internationally oriented distance learning university from within the micronational community.

We have chosen Paweł Ksawery Brzostowski (1739-1827) as our namesake. This Polish-Lithuanian clergyman, polymath, writer, and large landowner transformed his estate into the Republic of Paulava in 1769. The autonomy of the small republic was recognized and respected by Poland-Lithuania. Nevertheless, it is classified today as an early micronation. The Republic of Paulava was a model state in which the ideals of the Enlightenment were implemented. This also included a humanistic education. The partition of Poland among the great powers of Russia, Austria, and Prussia, as well as the suppression of the Polish November Uprising in 1830, ultimately led to the destruction of this fascinating social experiment. However, the ideals of the Paulava Republic remain to this day a shining example of courage, humanity, and an encouragement to move forward with good ideas.

A university founded by a micronational community – isn't that "crazy"? Not at all. There are many excellent examples of successful university foundations by special communities. Consider, for example, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). The world's best business school was founded in 1895 out of the Fabian Society to further the ideals of this reform socialist organization, which still exists today within the Labour Party.
Who would have thought it possible back then that a small reform socialist group, swimming against the mainstream and whose ideals were influenced by Thoreau and Tolstoy, among others, would found THE top business university? Unbelievable, but true!

Another example is the University of Witten/Herdecke: This German private university has an excellent reputation in medical education and was founded in 1982 by followers of anthroposophy, the spiritual-esoteric philosophy of Rudolf Steiner.

Also very remarkable is Sōka University in Tokyo, established in 1971. Sōka University is run by the Sōka Gakkai, a lay Nichiren Buddhist movement founded in 1930 by two elementary school teachers. The Sōka Gakkai's reformist educational approach ("value-creating education") is implemented at Sōka University. Today, Sōka University is one of the best universities in Japan.

This list could go on, but the essence is clear: the establishment of a university by a community that differs from the mainstream is something that has been successfully tested. It is precisely through new approaches that particularly excellent academic achievements can often be achieved. The micronational community unites many brilliant minds around the world and is characterized by a spirit of innovation, daring, and creativity. Great things can be expected from a university founded by the micronational community. Join us! The Paweł Brzostowski University of Applied Sciences is committed to developing the individual potential of each person. Everyone is welcome and can contribute to the university's founding. Make history - become a free member of our working group!
